L.A. Rock Fan
During my tenure with Yahoo! Music, I photographed innumerable musicians at performance venues across the country. With my lens turned toward the stage, I often noticed that some of the most eye-catching characters were behind me, in the audience. When I left Yahoo! to pursue my own creative interests, a photographic celebration of these unique music devotees was one of my first priorities.
L.A. Rock Fan is my portrait series of concertgoers in Los Angeles. Over 200 music enthusiasts participated in the project, which was produced at some of the best-known establishments in Rock and Roll, including the Roxy, Whisky A Go Go, and Doug Weston’s Troubadour.
The ten featured venues were selected for their historical and contemporary significance in L.A.’s nation-leading music scene. Specific shows, featuring such divergent talents as Sun Kil Moon, Lars Frederikson & the Bastards, Pedro the Lion, and Orgy, were chosen for their uniquely fashionable and visually striking devotees.
The wide horizontal format of the L.A. Rock Fan images, as well as the sheer quantity of portraits I shot, inspired me to produce a proposal for a monograph - a coffee table photo book - which I then submitted to 25 major publishers. To view the proposal, click here.
With the completion of the L.A. Rock Fan book proposal, it was suggested to me that the imagery was well-suited to be developed into a greeting card collection. To view the proposal I produced, click here.
