Friend and frequent commenter MorningStar recently contributed a bottle of Southern Comfort to the yorkrules test kitchen with a request that it be incorporated into an upcoming cocktail recipe. As she previously explained to me, the MorningStar nickname was bestowed with irony, as she is not known to shine in the earlier hours of the day. Perhaps this brunch-time mix will open her eyes and put a smile on her lips.
MorningStar
- 2 oz. Southern Comfort
- 6 oz. fresh-squeezed orange juice, strained through a fine sieve
- 1/4 tablespoon superfine sugar
- Splash of grenadine
- Splash of sparkling water
Combine Southern Comfort, orange juice, and sugar with ice in a shaker.
Add grenadine to a glass, then fill with crushed ice. Add the shaken cocktail and top with sparkling water and a Maraschino cherry.

Beautiful. I’ll be there Sunday at noon for my tasting (and whatever brunch Julie Our Love is whipping up. Hi Jul!)
Oh, and how cool am I now with a Yorkrules Test Kitchen drink named after my sarcastic nickname?
