If you’ve read my previous interviews with artists and musicians, you may have noticed two common qualities of my questions: 1.) contrary to popular practice, I rarely ask about art or music, and 2.) I prefer “big,” open-ended questions that intend to plumb the depths of the creative soul.
In response to one such “deep” inquiry about how he would enhance his creative environment, artist Travis Millard responded that “maybe some pizza” would help. That ain’t no Nietzsche, but it’s not to be dismissed.
Whether through the words of Kierkegaard or Twisted Sister, we are all constantly expressing and exploring the vast complexity of our own humanity. And when has pizza not made everything better? Read more about how Travis sees his world while I go preheat the oven.
Who is Travis Millard?
OH! I know this one! ….he won the Tour de France! Like 6 in a row?
Why do you create?
Because if someone else was doing it i couldn’t sue them for plagiarism.
Here Come Gene
In her yorkrules feature, Mel Kadel described her daily routine: “I have a weird old cabin with my boyfriend Travis Millard, and we pretty much wake up, draw, and keep each other entertained.” That sounds ideal for creating art. How would you improve upon it?
maybe some pizza?

How has your creativity evolved, and where do you predict it is headed?
In the beginning, my creativity was a small, fluffy, seemingly harmless Mogwai. Later it was discovered by a mystical old man, and sold for a reasonable price to a hapless suburbanite, who gifted it to his son, under certain circumstances, which the son agreed to, but he was careless. The boy fed it after midnight which caused a horrible chain reaction, and spawned a legion of blood-thirsty Gremlins. From there, it just gets kind of campy. In the future, i predict it will spin off a couple sequels and a variety of over-priced knick knacks.

What is important to you? Why?
Getting some breakfast soon because i get crabby if my blood sugar drops too low.
