Brendan Lott paints snapshots. You can recognize the snapshots he paints because you’ve probably appeared in similar ones yourself. Being thus familiar with this sort of source material, I found it remarkable how Brendan’s oil interpretations illuminate the inherent poetry, both sad and wonderful, of our lives, so I asked him to share his art here on Show Us Yours.

I think language is an important part of the overall feeling of a piece. A great title can suggest so much, clarify issues or lead the viewer astray in interesting ways.

You earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from Stanford University. How does formal education advance you as an artist?
I’d like to think I’m a better artist because of all that. I might be. I also might be worse. Who can say?
