V-Twins & Kit Kats

October 3, 2007

On the road.Uncle Walter introduced me to motorcycles. It was 1981, I was 6, and my mom’s younger brother was taking me on a daylong tour of his native British Columbia, Canada. My legs hung well above the rear foot pegs, so my tiny arms clung desperately to my uncle’s jacket from behind. It was a roaring and exhilarating terror, and I loved every sweep of road we tore along.

We stopped once, well into the ride, for some gas and a snack. I didn’t get to eat much candy back home, so when he bought me that Kit Kat bar, it would prove to be one of those deeply impressionable moments that distinctly impact the person you grow to become. It’s over a quarter of a century later, but I still love motorcycles, and Kit Kats continue to be my favourite candy bar.

What’s your favourite candy, and why? Please comment.

A visit from the future.

Hmmm - favourite candy…I have always been a sucker for sour things. Growing up with a Japanese mom meant a lot of pickled foods and my favourite was always umeboshi, which are japanese sour plums. These are the sour of sour and for japanese kids, umeboshi CANDY is the concentrated version of the sour plums, so there it is, my favourite is umeboshi candy. Thank god Mitsuwa finally started carrying them!

And I thought you were going to say it were the little icetea torpedo balls!

For me, Snickers and Ding Dongs, though not at the same time… its seasonal: frozen Snickers on a hot summer day and Ding Dongs tramping through the snow on the way home.
