Share ThisLike Firefox, WordPress is a software tool developed and expanded upon by an online community of individuals who want the best money can buy, and want it for free. That’s not to say they haven’t invested a great deal in it, though. In terms of time, technical ability, and creativity, these people have given their best to these endeavours, be it the Firefox web browser or the WordPress blogging platform.

One of the most significant advantages of this open-source style of collaboration is constant innovation. When a new feature is desired for the browser or a blog, someone in the community codes it and makes it available - for free - to everyone else (no need to wait five years for IE7.)

In Firefox, these bonus features are known as add-ons, and we’ll be talking more about them soon. In WordPress, they’re called plugins, and there are a number of them used on yorkules.com, which uses the WordPress software.

Today, I’d like to introduce you to Share This, created by Alex King.  Notice the Share This link at the top of each blog post (it’s also included in the e-mail updates sent out to yorkrules subscribers.)  Click on it, and you’ll be able to quickly and easily share the post with with friends via e-mail or any of the popular social bookmarking sites, such as del.icio.us, Technorati, and Digg.

Ah, now you see - once again, another self-serving message from the marketing team at yorkrules.  I want you to share this site with everyone in your address book and on your StumbleUpon list. Just as with Firefox and WordPress, nobody’s making any money off of yorkrules - an ever-increasing audience is all the compensation I need (for now; but I’m more than willing to cover this site with banner ads and skyscrapers for the right price.)
