I Hate L.A. That was the title of my first posting to yorkrules, one year ago today. Those particular sentiments haven’t changed much since then, but a lot else has. Here’s a look back at just some of what we’ve been through since yorkrules 2.0 (now yorkrules 3.0) went live.
My Uncle Richard dies a week after my first posting. The overbearing presence of Death settles over many of the 239 postings to follow.
I apply for my 100th job. I get one offer, no pay. I throw a party. I stop chasing the Goose of Employment.
Sister Sousa goes to Afghanistan with USAID to improve our Nation’s image overseas (Good luck, S.)
Julie My Love and I get to spend ten blissful (for me) days at Skywalker Ranch in Northern California while she oversees the audio mastering for Zoom. I make Skywalker: Undercover (and it’s sequel - better than the first.)
Julie My Love and I celebrate ten years together. We agree that if we marry, we’ll combine our last names - Funston and Ragland - into Funland.
Haiku the Little One joins the Funland clan.
The Ugly Americans invade China.
Chas and Anthony are married.
Jeremy becomes a cancer survivor.
Dax and Wendy are married (wedding guest Jay and friend pictured.)
The Antone Gang rides.
Camp Mourn meets in the desert.
Chas leaves her job.
The 2006 elections renew hope.
Zach changes jobs.
Zach changes jobs again.
My photography goes on sale at H.D. Buttercup.
Julie My Love and I go sledding in Taos for Christmas.
Chas and Jane go to Europe.
Zach and I do not.
I sell my first photo (who woulda guessed it would be this one?), Jeremy gets a new job, Zach moves, and and we’re all a year older now.

By web standards, the yorkrules audience is minute, but I am fortunate to have had over 49,000 unique visits and nearly 89,000 page views over the last twelve months.
So, where do all these visitors come from? It’s no surprise that most come from the United States and Canada (followed by Spain, the United Kingdom, and China.) Of the 67 countries where visits have originated, though, there’s five nations that have each only visited once:
- Hungary
- Iran
- Kenya
- Lebanon
- Norway
Here’s a map of the World, where every orange sphere represents multiple visits to the site (I think I’m that tiny orange sphere on the border between Mongolia and Russia.)
It’s been quite a year, but it’s also just the beginning. Thanks for sharing this first year with me, and keep coming back for more!
