I previously wrote that Mozilla’s Firefox browser is superior to Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. Now we’ll talk about why that is. One word (or is it two?): add-ons. Add-ons are free, easy-to-install extensions that give your Firefox browser additional capabilities. There are … (read more)
When five film school friends have a pile of short ends to burn (this is back in the days when film schools shot on film,) and no script in hand, you get something like Won Ton Fooey. Original? No. Fun? You have absolutely no idea just how much. Oh, film school, I miss you. … (read more)

As a firm believer in equal time, I felt it was important to offer an option to my Richardson Obama ‘08 bumper sticker. Unfortunately, Mitt’s a flip-flopper, Rudy’s a social issues liberal in conservative clothing, and John McCain has black bastard children. There really are no credible Republican candidates right now - except for the one guy we know can get elected (because he’s done it twice before already.)
Sure, the Twenty-Second Amendment to the Constitution may suggest that re-electing George W. Bush to a third term is not legal, but then he’s done so many things that are unconstitutional, why should he start worrying now? I’m sure Karl Rove can figure out a work-around - and when he does, I’ve got the bumper sticker ready to go!
The best writing in The Los Angeles Times Sunday Edition is not where you might expect to find it. Skip past the front page, the California, Business, and Sports sections to the inside of Currents, and you’ll find the editorial cartoons. There, in the Toon-Op box, cartoonist Joe Pett … (read more)

Yorkrules poll respondents were equally split between wanting more Minute by Minute features and more essays, so here’s the next installment in the MxM series, and you can vote in this week’s poll for the topic of the next essay (and then everybody is happy.) … (read more)
Like Firefox, WordPress is a software tool developed and expanded upon by an online community of individuals who want the best money can buy, and want it for free. That’s not to say they haven’t invested a great deal in it, though. In terms of time, technical ability, and … (read more)

February 5, 2008 has now become Super Ultra Tuesday, with nearly 60 U.S. States holding their primaries on that day. This heavily front-loaded political calendar gives the candidates very little time to get their campaigns up to speed, but since I’m unemployed, I thought I’d lend a hand.
I have yet to hear any credible voices say so (sure, there’s a few wacko bloggers out there, but who gives a damn about what they have to say?) but the winning Democratic ticket will be Governor Bill Richardson for President, with Senator Barack Obama as his running mate.
Unfortunately, even with the primaries just 10 months away, we’ll have to wait quite a while before the official merchandise is available. I can’t wait to be hopeful about our future that long, so I went ahead and made the bumper sticker today.
Yorkrules2 was intended to be an online portfolio of my creative work for consideration by potential employers. The Falcon & the Charlieman was on that version of the site, but well-hidden from prospective hirers. Yorkrules3 is now live and I’m still unemployed … (read more)
Welcome to yorkrules tech talk, or - as I like to call it in my very search-unfriendly way - tictactectoc. This is not where we’ll be discussing whether it’s better to use transitional or strict XHTML, or what’s the most popular CSS image replacement technique … (read more)
It seemed appropriate, as the yorkrules3 journey begins today and because I am inheritably indebted to my alcoholic ancestry for this opportunity to pursue my artistic interests, that we should begin with one for the long road ahead. What’ll it be? How ’bout a Sakecranitangerini. … (read more)
Cancer redefines lives. Documenting the disease’s impact on the lives of the individual, his family, and his friends, The Anthony Project examines how cancer affects all whom it touches. Through sound and pictures, this artistic endeavour not only explores the deleterious influence … (read more)
The yorkrules product development team was so excited to reach the one-year anniversary of yorkrules version 2 that they went ahead and released version 3 one week later, on Friday, March 10, 2007. This was an unfortunate choice, as the new version was far from ready. … (read more)
I Hate L.A. That was the title of my first posting to yorkrules, one year ago today. Those particular sentiments haven’t changed much since then, but a lot else has. Here’s a look back at just some of what we’ve been through since yorkrules 2.0 (now yorkrules 3.0) went live. … (read more)
