I’ve only been to one funeral, and that was my father’s. While the idea of spending several thousands of dollars on a massive box to put a person’s body in and then bury it doesn’t make any sense to me, funerals are great because it kinda feels like you’re in a cop show or music video when you attend one.
Every other person who’s passed away in my life - 9 and counting - has been memorialized. Memorials are great because they’re still a new enough concept that no one knows how they’re supposed to go. Memorials that I’ve been involved in organizing have typically been indistinguishable from house parties, except the person that we’re fêting isn’t physically there.
Anthony, apparently attempting to set some sort of record from beyond the grave, had four memorials: a West Coast church one, an East Coast church one, a midnight bike ride for his close friends, and a private one for his immediate family at their lake house in Maine.
But while Anthony’s life may have concluded with a multitude of memorials, Radio Macabre draws to an end today with a Funeral performed by a Band of Horses. Now that’s a funeral I’d like to attend!
