The dueling songs of death began, amusingly enough, on April 1, 2006. That was the day that Anthony posted to his blog the Arrogants’ Don’t Die Before Your Day, from their album - again, quite amusingly - You’ve Always Known When Best To Say Goodbye.
I’ve long taken my responsibility to fuck with Anthony quite seriously (as above, where I display my preternatural ability to cock-block him, once again.) Thus, when he unwittingly threw down his witty gauntlet, I promptly responded with my own posting - Clearlake’s Dreamt That You Died - and the battle of the musical blogs began.
I amassed an entire arsenal of songs, and made plans to assail him with a week-long barrage entitled Radio Macabre. In perhaps one of the most literal examples of having the last word, Anthony died before I was able to fuck with him one more time.
In his final post, Anthony spoke of how he had recently come to dislike Mondays.
mondays.
some of you will roll your eyes when you read this,
but i never really had anything against mondays.
in fact, there was a part of me that kind of
looked forward to them: a new week. beginnings.when i started chemo at usc, and it was determined
my visits would be weekly, i was asked
“is monday ok?”
“perfect” i saidnow i’m not sure how many weeks i’ve been at it over there,
but some things have changed during that time:
1. my skin (see earlier posts)
2. an aversion to needles (huuuhwhabrrrk!)
3. mondays suck
And so I start Radio Macabre on a Monday with The Boomtown Rats’ I Don’t Like Mondays.
